The word is spreading! There was a great article about our business in the Sidney Daily News on Saturday, May 26th.

Local Farm Family Opens Strawberry Patch

SIDNEY, Ohio — There is good news for local residents who are dreaming of fresh strawberries this time of year: locally-grown strawberries are ready for sale at a new patch just north of Sidney.

Crossway Farms has opened their farm market store at 2211 Cisco Road and has strawberries ready now for customers to buy. Beginning Monday, May 28, they will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. A complete schedule, map, list of products and weekly updates on the strawberries, u-pick raspberries and other produce is available at www.crosswayfarms.com.

Crossway Farms, owned by Jason and Angela Frantom, sells produce from two locations: the Cisco Road farm and the Sidney Farmers Market. They are known for their quality raspberries, vegetables, baked goods, and as of last fall, u-pick pumpkins. This is their first spring offering strawberries.

The patch at Cisco Road is open for u-pick. There are also pre-picked fresh strawberries available each day.

U-pick red and black raspberries will be offered in about one month when they are ready, Frantom said. Raspberries will also again be sold, along with many other items, on the west side of the court square in the downtown Sidney Farmers’ Market. That market opens June 2, and runs every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Customers can pre-order their fruit by calling Crossway Farms at (937) 210-1590, subject to availability, as long as they give 24-hours notice.

Week of May 20th

It has finally happened, the website is up and running! I must give the credit to my sisters for getting it all going (Thank you!). We hope you enjoy it and that it is informative and helpful.

It has been a busy winter and spring. We started some of our tomato plants in late February and transplanted them into the greenhouse on April 3rd, just in time for three nights of 20 degree weather and the beginning of 2 weeks of below normal temps. However, we kept every plant alive and now they are flowering and some have fruit already setting. During that time frame we did lose some production on our strawberry and raspberry plants. I believe we lost about 15% production on both red and black raspberries, but only 5% loss on strawberries.

We currently are picking strawberries on a daily basis, and it looks as if we will have a good supply on most varieties. We planted our new strawberry patch at the Cisco Rd. location, but we are not allowing U-Pick in the strawberries due to our plants not being the size we feel they need to be. However, the raspberries are doing very well and we will allow U-Pick for both red and black raspberries in about one month.

If you want strawberries this week, we will be open from noon to six Monday thru Saturday. Starting next week we will be open from ten to six Monday thru Saturday.
