Crossway Farms Weekly Update
Fall is coming quickly, but summer is having a hard time letting go. Nearly all our pumpkins have turned orange, so we have been trying to keep the plants alive to shade the pumpkins from this hot sunny weather. We have a good crop of pumpkins and other fall decorations that we will be harvesting in the next few weeks as we get ready for the weekend of September 16th.
We are opening the U-pick red raspberry patch on Labor Day, September 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be first come, first serve, as this is the start of the season and there will only be so many berries ready. The raspberry patch will be open until we have a hard frost. We will have some pre-picked raspberries from our other patch available.
The peppers love the heat and are doing well. We have many different varieties of bell and hot peppers you can use for salsa and many other dishes. We still won’t have many heirloom tomatoes, and our regular tomato numbers are dropping in production now.
Cucumbers are still producing well as are the black eyed peas and okra. We should have green beans in a few weeks, as well as a few head of cabbage this week and much more to come in the following weeks. The zucchini and squash are dying off quickly and we won’t have much of them throughout the rest of the season. We are no longer selling Fulton’s sweet corn unless it is for a large order (5 doz +).
The sunflowers are finished for the year, but we should have cosmos and zinnias for a while longer.
Please note! We now have our fall hours: Mon. — Wed. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; closed Thurs.; Fri. and Sat. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Starting September 16th we will be open on Sundays 1-5 for our pumpkin patch. We appreciate your flexibility, and, as always, look forward to serving you as we enter these busy fall months.
Baked Goods for downtown Saturday: Hershey Kiss Cookies, Pennsylvania Dutch Coffee Cakes, and homemade jams.
Have a great weekend!
